Before I had children, I was teaching in a typical American public elementary school. Now that I’m homeschooling, I'm interested in exploring new approaches to teaching.
I've been learning a lot about the Montessori method. Although I don't think I'll ever follow this method exclusively, the Montessori principles have had a very significant influence on the way I teach and parent my children. I'm also really interested in the unschooling philosophy, which (to me) seems like a natural progression from the Montessori method.
I love to use interdisciplinary thematic units and pull from all the resources I have from my teaching days. Plus, my children have a big extended family and four wonderful grandparents who give them lots of wonderful educational toys, books, and supplies!
